Florida Building Code (FBC) Section 1609 governs wind load requirements for all buildings in the state. Florida has the most stringent wind load requirements in the United States due to its exposure to hurricanes.

Exposure Categories

• Exposure B - Urban and suburban areas with many obstructions. Lower design pressures.
• Exposure C - Open terrain with scattered obstructions. Default when conditions uncertain.
• Exposure D - Flat coastal areas directly exposed to open water. Highest design pressures.
